American Debate

04/07/2008

In the light of the current United States presidential elections, the Van Abbemuseum is turning its attention to that nation’s creative heartland. The interdisciplinary Heartland project, a collaboration with Muziekcentrum Frits Philips, opens on 3 October and continues until 25 January.

Friday 4 July

Heartland - American Debate
As part of the run-up to the opening of Heartland, the Van Abbemuseum is organizing an American debate on the evening of America’s Independence Day: the fourth of July. Two USA experts, Maarten van Rossem and Willem Post, will cross verbal swords on the present and future of American culture, economy and politics, under the guidance (and involvement) of a moderator. The audience is naturally invited to actively participate in the debate and to challenge the views of the appointed speakers. The principal language will be Dutch but English language contributions are also welcome.

As fuel for the event’s mental exertions, you are invited to partake in American-style finger food along with music provided by the Blue Grass Boogiemen “High energy bluegrass at it’s finest.”
