Thursday 3 December 2009, the new research project Homeland Afghanistan – a journey from Oost to West will be opened by Charles Esche and Shafiq Omar, with a ‘slide show presentation’ and music.

The reason for this slide show presentation and the long terme research is the journey Shafiq Omar made to Afghanistan in the summer of 2009. To Shafiq Omar, this journey did not only mean a return to his homeland and family, but also a confrontation with the possibilities of art in one of the best known countries in the world.

Opening times: Tuesday to Sunday, 11:00 to 17:00. The museum is closed on Monday, with the exception of public holidays. The museum is closed on New Year's Day, King's Day and Christmas Day. The Van Abbemuseum is open until 21:00 on the first Thursday evening of the month, admission to the museum is free from 17:00 on those nights. The museum cafe is also open until 21:00 on these evenings. We offer an internet connection via WIFI in the whole museum.
