EXHIBITIONS - NOW AND COMING SOON

Library exhibitions

The Van Abbemuseum library holds its own exhibitions on the library walls, changing them every two months. These are programmed in collaboration with artists, collectors, publishers and art institutions. The exhibits include works on paper, bibliophilic editions and artists’ books, and are selected from a different perspective every time.

The library sometimes concentrates on particular publishers, especially alternative ones who support the production of artists’ books and artists’s projects, such as the Wild Hawthorne Press, Stichting October or Coracle Press. Through its exhibitions, the library highlights notable changes in formats used for artistic documentation. It also regularly gives an individual artist or group the opportunity to give a personal interpretation to the architectural space. The duo gerlach en koop transformed the library into a work of art, and Cosey Fanni Tutti turned it into a platform for a heated debate on showing pornography in a museum.

The library exhibitions reach audiences interested both in literature and visual art. Sometimes the exhibitions travel to other museums or literary venues.
