As a production partner, Ammodo has been contributing to various exhibitions at the Van Abbemuseum since 2012. From the beginning, Ammodo has been involved in Positions, an exhibition series in which the work of several contemporary artists is shown side by side.
The Ammodo Foundation stimulates art and science. The organisation initiates and supports new projects within the visual arts and performing arts, and annually awards a science prize to outstanding researchers. With these activities, Ammodo promotes the renewal of society. Read more on the Ammodo website.
"Ammodo and the Van Abbemuseum share the conviction that contemporary art can change our view of the world. The Van Abbemuseum is an excellent place to work with artists who raise urgent social questions." - Juliette de Wijkerslooth, director Ammodo
By entering into a long-term partnership, Ammodo offers its partners continuity and room for experimentation. In 2021 the collaboration between Ammodo and the Van Abbemuseum is extended to 2024.
"We see Ammodo as a strong artistic partner. Thanks to their support, the Van Abbemuseum can continue to fulfil its pivotal role as a museum that launches artists of international significance in the Netherlands." - Charles Esche, director Van Abbemuseum
In 2014, the Van Abbemuseum launched the Positions exhibition series with the support of Ammodo. In this new form of presentation, various contemporary artists are each given several rooms in which to show new work. This interplay shows the variety of 'positions' with which we approach the world. The audience is challenged to make connections themselves. Besides Positions, Ammodo also supports larger exhibitions of international significance. For example, in 2012 the Van Abbemuseum brought the work of avant-garde Russian artist El Lissitzky (1890-1941) into dialogue with the work of Russian artist couple Ilya (1933) and Emilia Kabakov (1945). In 2019, Ammodo supported a large-scale solo exhibition by The Otolith Group. And in 2021, Ammodo contributed to the exhibition Parallel Lives, Parallel Aesthetics by Turkish artist Gülsün Karamustafa and Argentine artist León Ferrari. Usually, these exhibitions travel to different museums abroad.
