The Van Abbemuseum Collection consists of over 2800 artworks. We publish texts and images on an ongoing basis, but this record is currently in the process of being documented.

Humans explore the world by displacing themselves through movement, a universal act that takes place in time and space. It is a process that inspires artists to question what space and time are. How do we manifest ourselves in time and space? How do we document this?

Kawara uses different systems to document and situate himself in time and place. His early work 'LAT. 31°25’N, LONG. 8°41’E' designates a desolate place in the Algerian Sahara: Grand Erg Oriental (Great Oriental Sand Dunes).
