take a sensory break
TAKE A SENSORY BREAK
Because of the many impressions you get to process in a short time, a museum visit can be exhausting. Especially for people who handle stimuli in a different way because of autism, certain disabilities or illnesses. As a result, they sometimes have a lower energy level which can make a visit to a museum a tiring experience.
REDUCED SENSORY STIMULUS VISIT
The Van Abbemuseum is the first museum in the Netherlands to offer a reduced sensory stimulus museum experience. In 2017, we also entered into a collaboration with Stichting Onbeperkt Genieten (Unlimited Enjoyment Foundation). A low-stimulus museum visit meets the specific needs of this diverse group of visitors.

UNLIMITED VAN ABBE
The projects regarding a reduced sensory stimulus museum experience are part of the Unlimited Van Abbe-programme. The Van Abbemuseum wants to be accessible to every curious visitor, whether you are blind or visually impaired, deaf or hard of hearing. Even if you are bedridden, the museum will come to you. Unlimited Van Abbe comprises monthly recurring activities for various groups, guided tours and several adjustments that improve the museum's accessibility. It is made possible by members of the VriendenLoterij.
