1m2 Collective
1m2 Collective
Dutch Design Week 2021 chose inclusivity as one of their themes for this year’s applicants, but how inclusive is the design festival itself? With the costs of presenting work being out of reach for many upcoming designers, how can this process be made more inclusive and visualise the true costs of participating?
1m2
During DDW, 1m2 Collective will display as many designers as possible on one square meter, 1m2, of ground space at the Van Abbemuseum. Through a considered exhibition design and curation, the art works will make an impact not only with their individual story, but also with their statement as a collective.
Research
Participants will be found through an open call, and the selection process will be carried out by an independent jury on the basis of the DDW entry requirements. The outcome of 1m2 Collective’s research into the (absence) of inclusivity at design festivals will be published to guide visitors through the display and it's message.
1m2 Collective
1m2 Collective is a platform to unite new design talent and highlight changes needed in the professional design field. Through positive protest and provocative research 1m2 Collective aims to stimulate a less elitist and more inclusive design industry.
