Crochet-on @ Van Abbe Crocheting for Coral Reef
On Friday, May 11 from 11:00 to 12:00 there is the opportunity to learn how to crochet your own piece of coral under the guidance of experienced chrocheters from Bloemendal Wol. They will explain everything about crocheting of hyperbolic forms. This way, everyone can contribute their own piece of coral to the Eindhoven Satellite Reef that is currently on display in the museum! In order to gain inspiration, after the workshop in the classroom, there is still the opportunity to continue crocheting in Hall 6 of the museum, where the crocheted coral reef is on display. Are you taking part? Sign up quickly!
The Eindhoven Satellite Reef is part of the Crochet Coral Reef, an art project of Margaret and Christine Wertheim and their Institute For Figuring (in Los Angeles) that connects the Brabant Dommel with the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. A crocheted and knitted coral reef that spreads from the central hall of the exhibition to other locations in Eindhoven and Brabant. Together, a high-profile structure is created that symbolizes how we are all connected with and to each other. The project was set up by the Sisters Wertheim in response to the destruction of coral reefs, and connects many different groups together by thinking together about the impact of changing nature on our world.
The Crochet Coral Reef is part of the exhibition Trade Markings. Read more about the exhibition here.
