DDW: Made in Knoal experienced designers and new talents...

22/10/2015 - 23/10/2015

... with farmers in Groningen and Drenthe

During the Dutch Design Week, on Thursday the 22nd of October and Friday the 23rd of October, Made in Knoal is a guest at the Van Abbemuseum.
For the design project Made in Knoal, six talented young designers - Nina van Bart, Gerard Jasperse, Siem Lenders, Anne Pabon, Enzo Pérès-Labourdette and Nienke Voorintholt - 'dive' into the proverbial clay of Groningen and sand of Drenthe.
They will make new works based on potato, hemp and saffron, guided by experienced designers Christien Meindertsma, Tjeerd Veenhoven and Foodcurators Lucas Mullié & Digna Kosse, and in cooperation with local farmers in Groningen and Drenthe. Meindertsma, Veenhoven and Foodcurators also make new works based on those same raw materials.

On Thursday the 22nd of October and Friday the 23rd of October, all designers present their results in the Van Abbemuseum. The six new talents also pitch their work to the public that Thursday and Friday from 11.15 - 12.15 hours in the education room of the museum.

Made in Knoal is a project of the Centrum Beeldende Kunst Groningen (CBK Groningen) and part of Langs de Linie, an arts festival on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the Semslinie (the borderland between Groningen and Drenthe) and the 250th anniversary of the Stadskanaal canal. The starting point of Made in Knoal is to bring together designers and farmers. The working process can be seen from the 3rd of September to the 11th of October in a design lab in Stadskanaal (province of Groningen) and on MadeInKnoal.blogspot.com.

Made in Knoal is financially supported by Het Stimuleringsfonds, Stichting 250\400 and CBK Groningen. Participating farmers are Maatschap Schipper-Elberse in Nieuw-Buinen, 't Kompas in Valthermond and HempFlax in Oude Pekela. Project plan: Mare van Koningsveld (also project manager & contact person).
