sense and nonsense in innovation

Through the exhibition Sense Nonsense at the Van Abbemuseum, Design Academy Eindhoven explores the inevitable relation between sense and nonsense, the interplay of sanity and insanity in innovation, and the role of the ridiculous and the absurd in liberating society and industry from the conventional wisdom that drives it.

With work by amongst others Atelier NL, Auger & Loizeau, Maarten Baas, Mandy Roos, Wim T. Schippers, Studio Makkink & Bey, Tomm Velthuis, Marcel Wanders and Thomas de Wolf.

Dutch Design Week

The exhibition opens on the first day of the Dutch Design Week (DDW), on Saturday 18 October at 4 pm. Mary-Ann Schreurs (alderman Innovation and design, Culture and Sustainability Eindhoven municipality), Thomas Widdershoven, the creative director of Design Academy Eindhoven and Charles Esche, the director of the Van Abbemuseum, will speak briefly and Wim T. Schippers will present a nonsensical opening activity. After DDW the exhibition is on view until Sunday 9 November.

No Nonsense - special evening programme

From Monday 20 until Saturday 25 October we organise a special with food, drinks, tours, performances, discussions and live music.  Every night between 19.00 and 21.00 you can join for a dinner catered by food designer Annelies Hermsen and Karel 1 museum cafe. And until 23.00 we offer you a varied (no) nonsense programme.

The Van Abbemuseum’s opening times during DDW

Daily, 18 to 26 October:

11.00 - 18.00 (apart from Sunday 19 October, when the museum will be open from 11.00 to 17.00 and the museum café from 11.00 to 16.00 due to an private event). 

Evenings, 20 to 25 October:

19.00 - 23.00 p.m. Dinner: join between 19.00 and 21.00. Exhibitions open to 22.00.

Entrance prices for the Van Abbemuseum during  DDW

Daily, 18 to 26 October:

DDW passe-partouts (entrance all areas) € 15, online sales (excluding administration charge), €17.50 on the door (available at all locations covered by the passe-partouts).
Students and children from 12 to 18, €7.50 (excluding administration charge), €10 on the door .
Family ticket € 40 (valid for 2 adults and 3 children from 12 to 17 and/or students).
A passe-partout gives entrance  to the Sense Nonsense exhibition (during the day), the Klokgebouw, the Dutch Design Awards exhibition and the 2014 Graduation Show of the Design Academy Eindhoven.

Evenings, 20 to 25 October:

Cost of evening programme + dinner, € 32.50 (excluding drinks), students €30.00.
Cost of evening programme (excluding dinner and drinks) € 17.50, students €15.00.
