Face to face with Frans Hals
Face to face with Frans Hals
Face to face with Frans Hals sheds new light on older art and frames new art in a tradition. This exhibition introduces you to innovation in the present as well as in the past, in a similar way to which the Frans Hals Museum displays different styles of art side by side.
Comparing art
In Face to face with Frans Hals, you can explore the relationship between 17th-century paintings and pieces produced after 1900. At times, the composition or subject is comparable; at others, there is a similar narrative to be discovered. In addition, each 17th-century painting will be paired with an object from an extraordinary collection of art and crafts belonging to an Eindhoven collector.
Artworks from Haarlem
On the back of the success of the exhibition Face to face with Rembrandt in early 2018, this year will see a collaboration with the Frans Hals Museum in Haarlem. Hals’ art from Haarlem will be presented alongside modern and contemporary art from the Van Abbemuseum collection.
Frans Hals
Frans Hals (1582 – 1666) is undoubtedly one of the most important Dutch Masters. He is well-known for the nonchalant, bold touch with which he portrayed his contemporaries in a lifelike way.
"Combining art from different periods in time results in new stories and a rich viewing experience." - Frans Hals Museum
