LGBTI-emancipation - The paradox of homophobia
LGBTI-emancipation The paradox of homophobia
In the beginning of the 80s the homosexual and lesbian movement flourished in Eindhoven. At the same time the aggression against homosexuals rose in frightening proportions. In the context of the International Day against Homophobia, Luc Brants, who currently works on the history of the homosexual and lesbian movement in Eindhoven, will tell about the coherence between both phenomena. In addition, he will address the question why so much violence occurred in the 80s, how the homosexual and lesbian movement reacted on that, and what the authorities did. Thereby Brants gives a striking image of how the anti-homosexual violence in the beginning of the 80s contributed to the liberation of the homosexuality in Eindhoven. The lecture will take place in Room 6 in the Van Abbe, but will be in Dutch. Entrance to the lecture is free, and also the museum will be free of admission on Tuesday afternoon between 15:00h and 17:00h.
The book of Luc Brants, Tussen repressie en provocatie, de lange weg van de homo- en lesbische emancipatie in Eindhoven, will appear in the fall of 2016. The book is written with support of COC-Eindhoven and region, the Dr. H. F. J. M. van den Eerenbeemtfonds and the Municipality of Eindhoven
