Museum Takeover: Bodies of Knowledge - Saturday
Museum Takeover: Bodies of Knowledge Saturday
MUSEUM TAKEOVER: BODIES OF KNOWLEDGE
From Friday 3 to Sunday 5 May the Van Abbemuseum hosts Museum Take Over: Bodies of Knowledge. Comprising a symposium, talks, performances, collective encounters, exhibitions and DJs the three-day programme is conceived as a take-over of the museum’s regular programming. With the programme, the museum invites forgotten, deviant and non-normative bodies of knowledge into the museum? The intervention is part of the museum’s ongoing effort to break open the limitations imposed by the modernist paradigm on how art is experienced and by whom. It is the first in a series of events and exhibitions over the coming years that foregrounds the body, rather than the eye and the mind, as a generator of knowledge. Museum Take Over: Bodies of Knowledge takes place in four galleries of the museum’s old building, the library as well as different parts of the museum. The programme is free of charge. Programme Saturday
On Saturday the museum will host performances, encounters and workshops exploring different ways to experience and occupy the museum.
The day begins with a workshop led by Ana S González Rueda that introduces a feminist pedagogical approach to engage both mind and body, thinking and feeling within the galleries of the collection building. Joy Mariama Smith and a group of performers will ‘pass’ through the collection building in a new durational performance. You are invited to attend a drag workshop in the new building in the early evening. At 20h Eimear Walshe will give a lecture performance where country music, the museum choir and their department of sexual revolution studies come together. Mikiki and Anthea Black will present a sonic event in the auditorium. In the evening join us for music, food and drink in the museum café until late.
