Museumweek 2017 activities and exhibitions
During Museum Week 2017 the Van Abbemuseum organizes several activities from Tuesday 4 to Sunday 9 April. Next to artwoks from our collection you can also be among the first visitors to explore our new exhibition Qiu Zhijie: Journeys without Arrival. This week you can also win a prize if you take a picture of yourself or your friends inside our 'show piece': the upside down hanging Volkswagen Beetle by Thai artist Surasi Kusolwong.
Activities
• Free guided tours in the weekend of 8 and 9 April.
At 12.00, 13.00, 14.00 en 15.00 you can explore the exhibitions and artworks of the museum, guided by a professional guide. You can register at the information desk in the entrance hall.
• Free mini guided tours
A short tour through one of our exhibitions. From Tuesday until Friday at 12.30 and 14.30, and on Thursday evening at 19.30. You can register at the information desk in the entrance hall.
• Children's art club, Saturday 8 April, 14.00-16.00.
For children between 6 and 12 years old who like to look at art, but above all to create art themselves! Costs: € 6,- per child.
• Special Guests tour for the blind and visually impaired, Sunday 9 April, 14.00 - 16.00.
Participants can touch artworks which come alive by use of music, literature and scent. The tour is free of charge, reservation is recommended.
• FRAGMENTS extended, Sunday 9 April, 14.00 - 16.00
A meeting about the independence struggle in the Dutch East indies, following the work FRAGMENTS [of a desire for revolution] by artist Lidwien van de Ven. This afternoon is for everyone who is curious about the relationship between the Netherlands and Indonesia as expressed in literature and art. Speakers are i.a. Lidwien van de Ven, Wim Manuhutu, Paul Bijl and Christiane Berndes.
• Social Media photo context at the 'show piece' of the Van Abbemuseum
Take a picture of yourself or your friends in one of the most notable artworks of our collection: the upside down hanging Volkswagen Beetle. Post this picture on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter together with the hashtags #vanabbe #OnsEchteGoud. The best picture which is made during the Museum Week will be awarded with a prize.
