Opening The Way Beyond Art

On Saturday 1 July from 14.00 until 18.00 the opening of The Way Beyond Art will take place. In this exhibition you will find works by, amongst others, Chto Delat, Corneille, Dan Flavin, Nilbar Güres, Iris Kensmil, Anselm Kiefer, John Körmeling, Taus Makhacheva, Füsun Onür, Dan Peterman, Thomas Schütte and Franz Erhard Walther. They are shown in a special setting designed by Can and Asli Altay (Future Anecdotes Istanbul). The titleThe Way Beyond Art is taken from a book published in 1947 by Alexander Dorner, the director of the museum in Hannover in the 1920s.

14:00: Artist at work: Antonis Pittas performing a text on Landart (2012-ongoing) as chosen by the Van Abbemuseum. 

Location Studio Van Abbemuseum:
15.00: Word of welcome by Annie Fletcher, chief curator Van Abbemuseum;
15.05: Explanation of the exhbition by curator Christiane Berndes;
15.15: Presentation by Can and Asli Altay, designers of The Way Beyond Art;
15.35: Lecture about Alexander Dorner by Noor Mertens, director Kunstverein Langenhagen;
15.55: Panel discussion with all guest speakers.

PART OF A SERIES OF COLLECTION EXHBITIONS

Between 2017 and 2020 the Van Abbemuseum organises a series of exhibitions and projects using its own collection. In this context the exhibition The Way Beyond Art can be seen in the large hall circuit of the 2nd floor of the Collection Building. The official opening of all exhibitions and projects in the  Collection Building takes place during the "Collection Days", from 21 until 23 September 2017.
