Performance 'Imbolc'/'Là Fhèill Brìghde' Sachi Miyachi

In het Oog (the eye)

The fifth performance by artist Sachi Miyachi is based on ‘Là Fhèill Brìghde’ or ‘Imbolc’, the Celtic spring festival that has been celebrated since ancient times. Imbolc derives from the Old Irish ‘imbolg’ meaning ‘in the belly’, a time when sheep begin to lactate, their udders fill and the grass begins to grow. It is a time to celebrate Bride, the Celtic goddess of inspiration, healing, and smithcraft, who is also associated with fire, the hearth and poetry. This performance will focus on an individual ritual at home in which people make their own altar, dolls and decorations, how they take elements from nature into their domestic area and how they extract elements of life into symbols. Miyachi will transform the festival into a special performance by teaching the original method, using tools and zooming in on the original context. After the performance Miyachi will give you a recipe to take home and to perform the ritual yourself.
