Self-Care - event accompanying the exhibition The Otolith Group: Xenogenesis

Around the exhibition The Otolith Group: Xenogenesis there are various events in which scientists, artists, and performers join hosts Richard Kofi and Gyonne Goedhoop. Various guests enrich the topics in the exhibition; every event has a different theme. Podcasts are made from conversations and performances.This - last - event is all about Self-Care. To what extent do stereotypes about origin, race and gender identity cause us to lose our connection with our nature and true nature? Does this have consequences for our health? Should we strive for solidarity and fraternization to transcend role expectations and imbalances of power?

In that context, host Richard Kofi wonders what museums could look like if they did not focus on visitor numbers and prestige, but on the well-being of visitor groups. He states that outside of Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague it is more difficult for Afro-Dutch people to find places that are all about Black identities and cultures. He will talk to Gyonne Goedhoop and his guests about the chances of survival of museums in which blackness is highlighted from a non-Afro-centric perspective.
