The collection is... private collection Lidewij Edelkoort

08/10/2022 - 06/11/2022

How close are the ties between visual art and design really? Lidewij Edelkoort and the Van Abbemuseum answer this question with the exhibition The collection is.... during Dutch Design Week 2022.

In the 10 rooms of the Old Building, The collection is... poetically explores the line between autonomous design and visual art. The interplay between the two disciplines allows you to think creatively about social issues such as climate change, migration, loneliness and the relationship between the city and the countryside. Prominent pieces in the exhibition include works by Maarten Baas, Jurgen Bey, Nacho Carbonell, Piet Hein Eek, Hella Jongerius and Studio Job.

“It’s a revolution in the museum world to unify and merge these two spheres and to bring them on an equal footing” - Lidewij Edelkoort

A second exhibition focusing on the dialogue between design and art can be seen in 'Home of Design' Kazerne until spring 2023.
