Every contributions to 'who owns the street?' references to the legendary exhibition 'The Street' hosted by the Van Abbemuseum in 1972. At that time the director of the museum was Jean Leering, who compiled the exhibition, he said: "[the usage of the street] reflects the habits of a society, how it experiences itself and how it understands. [...] The street also gives the opportunity of sharing life: the street is the place where opinions and ideas become public and urge to action." Unfortunately, Jean Leering cannot tell us about the process of creating the exhibition anymore. But Jan van Toorn, Jaap Bremer and Tjeerd Deelstra, who were closely involved can.
