Thursday Evening Open Queer Kino

17:00 - 21:00

A queer take on the Van Abbe film collection

An evening of critical thinking, amazement and popcorn.

Location: Studio floor -1

18.30 - 19.15 Gabriel Ann Maher

Gabriel Ann Maher has a background in interior architecture hence focusing essentially on the relationships between body and structure as well as objects and systems. Maher is shaping a methodology where design and research is coming together in performance, essentially through a queer and feminist framework.

Maher will present De_sign, a critical analyse of representation in the Frame magazine as well as how a queer approach can help us decode online media platforms.

19.30 - 20.30 Queer Kino

The Van Abbemuseum has a great collection of art films. On this evening we will focus on the raise of performance art and art films from the 60’s to the early 80’s. On the panel we have Moderator Olle Lundin, Curator Diana Franssen, Queer Sociologist Alice Venir and Gabriel Ann Maher. The panel will give a sneak peak at some of the movies from this period and give hints to what they could mean. We will touch on topics ranging from humour to sexual expression, from to the male gaze to social constructionism. And of course there will be popcorn!
