Van Abbemuseum Vitrine: Selection Sander van Doorn at Van der Valk Hotel Eindhoven

08/06/2019 - 30/09/2019

The more than 3,000 contemporary artworks in the Van Abbemuseum constitute the collection of the city of Eindhoven. These are works of art which deserve to be seen and sometimes pop up in unexpected places. Part of the museum’s collection is on display at the Van der Valk Hotel Eindhoven, designed and created by Piet Hein Eek. This display in a glass cart has a central place in the hotel lobby.

The works exhibited are changed regularly and prominent figures from Eindhoven and the surrounding area are able to choose works from the museum’s collection. The exhibited works, that were selected by the fourth guest curator, Sander van Doorn, will be on display from Saturday 8 June.

Sander van Doorn's Selection

The selection of Sander van Doorn is all about his passion for music. The chosen artworks have music as a theme, or remind him of aspects of his life as a DJ. For example he chose the work Grammofoon (Gramophone) by René Daniëls. "For me it all started with that", Van Doorn reflects. A piece by John Körmeling with the text 'klap klap klap' (clap, clap, clap) reminds him of the applause he gets after his shows, all across the world. He associates Structuur XXXVII (Structure 37) by Peter Struycken with the airplanes in which he spends a lot of time while traveling.
