special guests app

In hospitals, patients and visitors spend a great deal of time waiting in different waiting rooms. Plenty of time to take a dive into the collection of the Van Abbemuseum using a unique app! In 2015, the museum, together with Radboudumc and INTK, launched the Special Guest app. The app is no longer in use, but on this page, you will find some inspiring stories that were included in the app.

In the Special Guest app, 16 children between the ages of 5 and 17 shared their art stories: about webbes and gloves, about a man from cement, about stairs towards the blue sky, and much more. These stories were inspired by works of art from the collection of the Van Abbemuseum and the Radboudumc in Nijmegen. You don't have to be an art expert to hear these young art viewers talk about all the things they see in the artworks.

Stories form the app:
Apolonia, Erwin Olaf (collection Radboudumc).

This app is the result of a collaboration between Radboudumc and the Van Abbemuseum. Both organisations opened their doors and invited children from the Amalia Children’s Hospital and several schools in Eindhoven to dive into their art collections.

Special Guest programme

The app was part of the Special Guest programme that the Van Abbemuseum developed in 2014 to make art more accessible for everybody who is curious. Both inside and outside the museum walls. This app made the museum and hospital collection accessible to everyone. The Special Guests programme, which continued under as Unlimited Van Abbe, is made possible by the participants of the VriendenLoterij.
