Host (volunteer position)

Van Abbemuseum is one of the leading contemporary art museums in Europe. We address questions about the relationship between art and society. In collaboration with various experts and interest groups in the areas of physical accessibility and inclusion, the museum welcomes more diverse perspectives into its program and exhibitions (such as those of the LGBTQIA+ community, people with a migration background, and visitors with physical disabilities).

Who are we looking for?

As a Van Abbemuseum host, you are part of a dedicated team of people interested in art, society, and culture. To grow our current group of volunteers, we are looking for hosts who are available for a minimum of 3 hours per week, especially on weekends. An ideal opportunity alongside a job or studies, for example.

Responsibilities

  • Welcoming visitors
  • Providing information to visitors about the collection and exhibitions on display
  • Assisting with openings or other events

What do we offer you?

You get to work in a dynamic environment: the museum is a lively meeting place for art doers and thinkers. Furthermore:

  • Volunteers get a unique look behind the scenes of a prominent art institution
  • You will receive a museum card and a travel allowance
  • The Van Abbemuseum regularly organizes training sessions and workshops for its volunteers
  • You can participate in staff meetings and will receive an end-of-year gift
  • You can visit events, openings, lectures, and artist talks for free

Your application

Do you have a few hours to spare and does this opportunity interest you? Please get in touch with our volunteer coordinator Trudy van de Meerakker. Email a brief motivation letter and CV to t.v.d.meerakker@vanabbemuseum.nl. We look forward to hearing from you!
