Van Abbe cafe
“An oasis of calm, right in the middle of the city,” is how one visitor described the Van Abbe café. Located at the rear of the Van Abbemuseum, the café and adjoining terrace overlook the river Dommel, which has been widened here to form a unique inner lake partly embraced by the museum building.
Whether you are visiting the museum or simply looking for a welcoming place to pause, the café offers a relaxed setting to enjoy the surroundings and something tasty from the menu.

Design by Daphna Laurens
The new Van Abbe café interior, designed by Eindhoven-based Daphna Laurens Studio in collaboration with Etenswaar and Bregje Zimmerman, subtly strengthens the connection between inside and outside. Renewed flooring aligns with the terrace and entrance area, while original architectural elements such as the light grey window pillars are preserved.
