About Feldenkrais

Feldenkrais is a movement theory that helps you to use your own body better. By performing a movement in different ways, you discover what works best for your body. The method was developed by physicist Moshé Feldenkrais (1904 - 1984). His philosophy is that (physical) learning is best stimulated when you don't conform to a pre-established norm. According to him, freedom only comes when you have options to choose from. If you can do the same movement in two ways, you have the freedom to choose which one works best for you.

Yael Davids

Artist Yael Davids introduced Feldenkrais in the Van Abbemuseum. She is a certified teacher and uses the method in her art practice. In her work, she explores the similarities between the freedom that both the Feldenkrais method and art offer. For her solo exhibition A Daily Practice, on display in the museum in 2020, she developed seven special lessons in which she linked works from the Van Abbemuseum collection to Feldenkrais.

Lessons

These weekly lessons are given by two teachers who worked with Davids during her preliminary research for her solo exhibition. The classes are an invitation to everyone who wants to make Feldenkrais part of their daily life.
