Travel Songs Around the Sun by Ayumi Paul invites visitors to sing in response to nine solar events marked within the gallery. Dates and directions create a “sundial within a sundial”, connecting earthly and cosmic movement through sound. The work reflects on Earth’s yearly orbit and the Sun’s vast journey through the Milky Way, placing human life within larger cycles. Visitors can contribute a hum, note, heartbeat or song, independently or with the Van Abbemuseum choir, during specific celestial moments throughout the duration of the exhibition, including 7 November, the winter solstice on 21–22 December, and 13 February at solar noon.
