De Onkruidenier in conversation with Forever Summer 2024 participant Mime van der Weerden
In this talk, the artist collective de Onkruidenier will engage in conversation with Mime van der Weerden, a participant in the 2024 edition of Forever Summer and an expert tomato grower. Mime started as a hobby grower, an interest that led her to organize an annual tomato festival that brings together growers from across the region to taste, taste, share knowledge and exchange seeds from special varieties. Together, they will explore the implications of an art project that incorporates both plants and people, rather than objects. Why is this community so motivated to grow many different varieties, and contribute to great diversity of tomato species? What makes the tomato so special? This discussion will delve into the intersections of art, ecology, community, and sustainability, offering insights into the role of living systems in contemporary art practice.
