The Right to Eindhoven | Circuit of Commons
Collective perfomative intervention
Apr 17, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Are you worried about the lack of spaces in the city for gathering, organizing and create things together? Do you think there should be given free space for non-commercial practices and other types of circular economies? Do you want nature to have a strong voice and place in the city? Would you like to support the existence of social, cultural and environmental initiatives in the center and in the neighborhoods?
Join this performative action and be part of an artivist intervention where “art is a verb.” Together with the Circuit of Commons, we will celebrate self-managed collectives in the city, supporting and giving them visibility. Add your voice to a bigger Common and participate in creating an image from this intervention. You can join at any moment of the performance!
The Circuit of Commons is a growing net of support; an open group of transdisciplinary and transgenerational self-organized initiatives, communities, and individuals in Eindhoven. It has been initiated by the artists Libia Castro & Ólafur Ólafsson and curator Gemma Medina with diverse sociocultural and environmental initiatives as part of The Right to Eindhoven, a project in progress for the exhibition Positions #8: Art is a Verb.
With this performative pop-up demonstration, the artists use the potential of art, activism and transdisciplinary practices to imagine and inspire a change. We invite everyone to join the Circuit of Commons in thinking and demanding together alternative options for a different city model that includes the importance of the commons and common spaces.
14:00 – 14:10 Gathering at the former entrance Van Abbemuseum (old building).
14:10 – 14:45 Raising of the monumental textile work and presenting the Circuit of Commons, its initiatives and supporters. A photo of the intervention will be taken and it will be filmed.
14:45 – 15:15 Walk together with the monumental textile work and other banners, flags, signs, flowers, to the city hall where the Circuit of the Commons will present again with the group and the banner. At both locations a statement is read out and a photo is taken of the assembled people who represent the various initiatives in the Circuit of the Commons, Van Abbemuseum representatives and other sympathizers, which will be filmed.
15:30 – 15:45 Walk together back to the museum and install the banner of The Right to Eindhoven – Circuit of commons in Room 10.
You don't have to register for this event! Participants can enter the museum for free afterwards.
