Kunsthistorische studie naar kunst en culturele politiek in het naoorlogse Taiwan. - During the past five decades, Taiwan has seen the emergence of artists who exemplify the rapid social, political, and cultural changes of the period. Their work represents a vital and ongoing inquiry into history, and a critical revision of Taiwanese identity and culture. Art and Cultural Politics in Postwar Taiwan is concerned with the visual arts as they embody the crises in national and cultural identities in Taiwan. Among the topics examined are Japanese colonial architecture; the role of official art exhibitions in the process of decolonization; migrations and transplantations of modernist art in postwar Taiwan; and the impact of rapid cultural change on artists born after World War II.
