Description

The marble beam in 'Landart' has the dimensions of the steps of Athens’ Syntagma Square, which often provides the backdrop for protests. Each time the work is exhibited, Antonis Pittas inscribes a fragment of text on the beam with graphite, which is erased again when the exhibition is finished. Traces of previous fragments remain visible. The texts are taken from the media and refer to political events. By only using fragments, Pittas removes the statements from their original contexts. He provides them with new, contexts by inscribing them into the beam. 'Landart' is not merely a sculpture but also a performance.
