Description

Right after the Russian Revolution, Lenin calls for a redivision of available housing space. Based on a Communist principle of equality, each adult is allocated a private space measuring eight square metres. This floor surface is represented by the artist through a hand-made rug in silver sequin fabric. The silk lining shows an embroidered label with the word ‘LENIN’. The fabric is from a series of Prada evening dresses from 2000, a symbol of luxury. What do exclusivity and uniformity mean for the identity of man and state? Can we consider the rug as an ode to the private space?
