The Van Abbemuseum Collection consists of over 3400 artworks. We publish texts and images on an ongoing basis, but this record is currently in the process of being documented.

If you need specific information on this work or artist, remember that the Van Abbemuseum Library is at your disposal, or feel free to write to the library.

Pacheco invites the viewer to look for possible stories. Here we see a procession of people with backpacks walking through tall grass. Are they festival-goers, protesters, or perhaps refugees? From which perspective should we look at this image? Pacheco uses realism to investigate the nature of collective action. But Pacheco’s painting light, transparent, homogeneous – can’t be pinned down in a statement. The pastel colors and the lack of identifiable features result in an image that transcends reality and takes on a timeless aspect.
