Description

Lebanese artist Rabih Mroué wants to liberate not only himself but also the spectator from the modern world’s persistent belief in progress. In the video 'Old House', a building slowly collapses in a jolted fashion only to resurrect itself. It is as if, from pieces of the past, a new present is constructed time and again. A voice-over repeats ‘remembering and forgetting’. Through remembering and forgetting, modernity becomes an option within history rather than a fact of the past.
