Description

‘When the woman speaks, she names her own oppression,’ states Martha Rosler. In 'Semiotics of the Kitchen', Rosler parodies cooking shows made famous by chef, author, and television personality Julia Child. The artist presents kitchenware in an unusual and sometimes aggressive manner, undermining ‘the familiar system of everyday kitchen meanings – the securely understood signs of domestic industry and food production.’
