Description

In the Caucasus mountains in Dagestan, Rasul Abakarov skilfully walks along a tightrope mounted between two rock formations. He is a member of the fifth generation in a family of tightrope walkers. Filmed using drones, we see Abakarov moving paintings from one rock to another. They are replicas of artworks from the Dagestan Museum of Fine Arts. The artworks reflect the people, culture, and history of Dagestan. Since its past is laden with foreign oppression, such a displacement of paintings represents the quest for a new relation to the past, culture, and identity, and an ever-changing political environment.
