Description

Artist duo Nabuurs&VanDoorn have made a film work inspired by Mike Kelley’s 'Morgue'. 'Morgue' is a series of 39 collages, which are part of the large installation 'Categorical Imperative & Morgue' (1999) from the collection of the Van Abbemuseum. The film presents a concentrated monologue on this work and its history. 'Categorical Imperative & Morgue' was first shown in Villa Empain, Brussels, as part of a duo exhibition presenting the work of Kelley and Franz West. Kelley’s installation is made from all the random things he collected to make art, but never used.

Nabuurs&VanDoorn researched 'Morgue' and discovered a fascinating history that combines art, the relationship between America and Europe, modernity, and much more. This research resulted in the third part of their series 'Zwischenlandschaften' (Transitional Landscapes).
