During the forty days that the retrospective was open to the public, it summoned 70,000 spectators; it generated immense lines to enter the room; it was crossed by lawyers and judges; it brought about the multitude of demands for the destruction of his work and demonstrations in his support; it gave rise to almost 1,000 articles of press; it received messages of support and repudiation; one petition in his defense had 2,800 signatures; it was necessary to extend the schedule of exhibition until past midnight; the exhibition was closed by one court and opened again by another.
