The interdisciplinary Cuban artist Tania Bruguera will discuss a range of questions about her work in relation to performance and activism with Annie Fletcher and Catherine Wood . This event is cohosted by the Van Abbemuseum and TATE, as part of the research network Collecting the Performative. This research network will examine emerging models for the conservation and documentation of artists' performance and will draw upon the practices of dance, theatre and activism in order to identify parallels in the concept of a work and related notions of authorship, authenticity, autonomy, documentation, memory, continuity and liveness. Tania Bruguera is working primarily in performance, installation and video and the concept of Arte Útil. She has been a participant in Documenta 11 as well as in several biennales such as Venice, Johannesburg, Sao Paolo, Shangai, Havana, and Site Santa Fe. Her work has also been exhibited internationally including exhibitions amongst others at The Museum of Contemporary Art of Chicago; Museum Boijmans van Beuningen, Rotterdam; Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt; Helsinki Art Museum, The Whitechapel Art Gallery. She has performed in venues such as the Kunsthalle Wien; Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst, Gent; Museo X-Teresa Arte Actual, Mexico City; the Tate Modern, London; Museo de Bellas Artes, Caracas and The Institute of International Visual Arts, London. She is the founder / director of Arte de Conducta, the first performance studies program in Latin America, hosted by Instituto Superior de Arte in Havana and is faculty at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has lectured extensively and internationally at The New School in New York, The School of the Art Institute in Chicago, The Royal College of Art in London, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, École des Beaux Arts in Paris, etc.
