Description

The geometric forms of the lattice reliefs intersect three photographs. The central panel references Araeen’s ‘Paki Bastard’ performance shown in the previous room. The quotes are excerpts from Margaret Thatcher’s infamous ‘Swamped Speech’ of 1978. Either side are images of a virile goat. Together, they addresses the way in which Araeen felt those from outside the West were perceived. Combining different elements of Araeen’s visual vocabulary and critical concerns Look Mama… Macho examines forms and systems of representation.
