Description
Henri Jacobs made this painting in 1990 during his stay at the Van Doesburg studio-house in Meudon close to Paris. It portrays Theo van Doesburg’s studio-house, which he designed in the late 1920s for himself and his wife, but passed away before he could move in. Jacobs became fascinated with the nature of the spaces and used them as projection screens for his own thematics. He is interested in different ways of creating illusionary space on flat surfaces. He combines his research into surfaces with an imaginary story that remains unknown to the spectator. Here, this story is inspired by his confrontation with Van Doesburg’s philosophy and the house in which he could never live or work.
