Description

In 1968 Weiner described his artistic practice in the following statement of intent:

‘Regarding different ways of use:,1. The artist may construct the piece,2. The piece may be fabricated,3. The piece may not be built,Each being equal and consistent with the intent,of the artist, the decision as to condition rests with, the receiver upon the occasion of receivership.’

In the 1960s art often tended towards disposing of material form. Weiner conveyed his ideas by means of language, creating sculptural concepts through statements on paper. Without necessarily taking physical shape, they can just as well be formed in the spectator’s imagination. All forms being equal to Weiner, his concepts can also be executed temporarily with letter stickers on a wall.
