James Jennifer Georgina is een bijna negen centimeter dik en aan alle kanten geel boek. De architecturale binding trekt ook meteen de aandacht: de rug is samengesteld uit drie lamellen, waardoor het boek op een bijzondere manier blijft openliggen. Inhoudelijk bestaat het documentaire James Jennifer Georgina eveneens uit drie delen: briefkaarten, gesprekken en foto's. Het gaat om de gezinsproblemen van de Butlers, en met name om het alcoholisme van vader James. De herdrukte (voor- en achterzijde) kaarten aan hun jonge dochter Georgina vormen de hoofdmoot. Van de uitgever: 'The postcards are mostly Jennifer's constructs of collages and photos that give the cards a sense of purpose, a mothering from a distance. The 210 postcards - culled from 1000 - are reprinted and transcribed and form the bulk of the pages. They were written between 1989 and 1999 during the course of a 268,162 miles travel odyssey to keep James's hands on the steering wheel rather than the bottle. Ten years later, these are joined by 21 conversations, dialogues that address specific topics, in the hope of achieving some sort of closure on issues which dog the family from the disease. These three articulate characters sound like a mix between a Woody Allen film and a Harold Pinter play.'
